How to Encourage Your Chickens to Lay in The Winter

Dislike 0 Published on 29 Mar 2017

Encouraging chickens to lay throughout the winter is a necessity for a production chicken operation but how is it done?

Although some feel that this method may be bad for the chickens or in some way inhumane I have not seen that in any case here with our birds. In the middle of winter with no supplementation our 47 laying hens were not laying a single egg on most days. With feed costing about $40 per month it is hard to raise this many chickens without seeing any return.
